Working as a Nurse in Singapore:

Process for Malaysian RNs

Registered Nurses (RNs) from Malaysia can pursue opportunities to work in Singapore, as their qualifications are transferable, making them highly sought after in the Singapore healthcare sector.

Here’s an overview of the process:

Diploma in Nursing from Malaysia

The educational qualification for RNs in Malaysia typically involves a three-year diploma program from an accredited institution. Upon completion of this program, nurses are awarded the title of Registered Nurse (RN) and can practice nursing within Malaysia.

Jadual Kelima (Schedule V)

To practice as a Registered Nurse in Malaysia, a nurse must be listed in the Jadual Kelima of the Nursing Board of Malaysia. This is a formal recognition by the Malaysian Nursing Board, which registers nurses based on their completion of recognized nursing programs.

Licensing in Singapore

Once a nurse has completed their nursing diploma in Malaysia and obtained the Jadual Kelima certification, they have the option to convert their Malaysian nursing license to a Singaporean one. To do this, they will need to go through a registration process with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).

Process of Conversion:

Application

Upon offer by a Singapore healthcare institution, the nurse must submit an application to the Singapore Nursing Board, providing proof of their Malaysian nursing qualification and Jadual Kelima registration.

Examinations

In some cases, the nurse may need to undergo an assessment or examination to ensure that their qualifications meet the standards required in Singapore. Malaysian qualified Registered Nurses are exempted from this Licensure Examination.

English Proficiency

Depending on the nurse’s educational background, there may also be a requirement to demonstrate proficiency in the English language, as English is the primary language of communication in Singapore’s healthcare system.

Approval

If all requirements are met, the nurse will be issued a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Singapore.

This process allows for a smoother transition for Malaysian nurses to work in Singapore’s healthcare institutions, which often have high demand for skilled professionals. Singapore’s diverse healthcare system is a popular destination for Malaysian nurses seeking professional growth and better career opportunities.
